Why granite?
Granite's natural aestheticism and durability makes it the kitchen and bath designers' material of choice. The granite countertop has become the standard for upscale design bidding with its unmatched beauty against Corian and other composites. By its nature as an igneous rock its formation begins as hot, liquid magma that cools while under the earth's pressure, As a result, it is the hardest of the natural stones and minimally porous. This makes it naturally heat and stain resistant and virtually impossible to damage. In the kitchen, you can cut and place hot pans directly on it. Granite use in the kitchen has grown from the traditional countertop; floors and back splashes are changing as a result. The trend in granite usage is evidenced not only in the number of kitchens and bathrooms designed with granite as a key element, but in the variety with which it is used. No longer is a bathroom simply a "stone bathroom," consisting of simply a floor of 12x12 inch tiles and a vanity top. Designers are opting for "the entire stone experience" with multi-color floors and intricate shower design, combined with other bathroom elements- cabinetry, water fixtures, fabrics- to bring a feeling of warm comfort to a traditionally cold space. Whether the desired look ranges from elegant to rustic, granite has become the premier choice in residential installation in both new and remodeling projects for its beauty and affordability. |
